About J-Tek Guitars USA

By Jimmy E

J-Tek fine handcrafted guitars are built in the heart of Central Pennsylvania.

My true motivation and desire is producing  an authentic American made string instrument that is of exceptionally high quality, can be purchased for a fair price and has lasting value to the purchaser. I am committed to building instruments using as many handmade-hand carved components as are reasonable. That includes hands-on assembly as well as finish application. I am compelled to preserve the artistry, tradition and integrity of luthierie.

My legal name is James Eckley and I grew up about 75 miles west of New York City in a resort and entertainment kind of community. Everybody called me Jimmy from birth and I suppose my workplace colleagues named me “Jimmy E” to avoid confusion with the other Jimmys therefore I adopted the name. I began playing the guitar at around 13 years old and by 15, I began playing with a local band. We knew at least 3 songs, how to play them several different ways and draw them out longer than you care to know. The band was short lived but I was passionate about the music. I grew in my abilities and became a decent guitar player. I went on to play with a few different bands and performed on stage with some good people.

Through the years I learned instrument refinishing, repairs and making replacement parts. Growing up in a woodworking shop gave me the edge in working with tools and materials. As a musician I’ve owned many guitars made by various manufacturers and produced in several countries including the USA. Each had their own characteristics and fit my needs at the time. I want to make it clear that it is never my intent to criticize other manufacturers or their methods. However, something I noticed early on was the fact that some instruments sound better and play easier than others. I’m sure all of us prefer something that fingers well and has that distinct sound to suite our musical style.

I’ve been captured by the intrigue of why certain instruments sound the way they do and how certain musical frequencies awaken our passions and emotions. Therefore it became my study and motivating force to discover how various materials assembled in a specific order will effect the sound of musical scales and chord patterns. I expect to continue learning and improving forever but the instruments I build today are far superior to many others you will find on the market. My name is Jimmy E and I build J-Tek Guitars, made in the USA!
